Roller-coaster round leaves Henley in third place

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Russell Henley battled through a wild ride Friday at The Players Championship to give himself a shot at his second victory this season.

Henley’s 71 in the second round included six birdies and five bogeys. It moved him to 8-under 136, all alone in third place, four shots off the lead.

“It was a tough test, and I felt like I hung in there well,” said Henley, who arrived at The Players coming off back-to-back missed cuts. “I’m excited about the weekend. I’m going to give it everything I got, and I’m going to go after it. I’m going to try to win.”

Henley, 25, won the Honda Classic in March, his second PGA Tour title. He won the Sony Open last year.
