Rose up to No. 8 in OWGR after Quicken Loans win

RSS

It says something about the depth in golf today – not to mention the parity – that Justin Rose scored another signature victory but moved up only two spots in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Rose, who prevailed in a playoff at the Quicken Loans National for his first worldwide title since the 2013 U.S. Open, rose from No. 10 to No. 8 in the latest rankings, released Monday. The six-time PGA Tour winner has been ranked as high as third in the world.

Shawn Stefani, who lost on the first extra hole at Congressional, made a massive move in the rankings, up from No. 246 to No. 126. Though he failed to close out his first career title on Sunday, he received two consolation prizes – he secured an Open berth and also clinched his Tour card for next season. That’s no small achievement, of course, after he needed a high finish earlier this year in Houston just to maintain his playing privileges on the PGA Tour.

Fabrizio Zanotti, who outlasted Henrik Stenson to win a playoff at the BMW International Open in Germany, rocketed from No. 305 to No. 112. He ended last year at No. 514 in the world.
