Ryder Cup assistant North scouts U.S. players

MARANA, Ariz. – Andy North picked a good day to do some Ryder Cup scouting.

North, one of two assistant captains for this year’s matches, was at Dove Mountain this week to get to know some potential U.S. players for this year’s matches and was treated to 16 – out of 32 – America versus Europe bouts on Day 1 at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

“I wanted to see Patrick Reed and Harris English, a couple of guys no one really knows that well,” North said. “I just want to let them know we are here if they have any questions. Give them a (phone) number to call if they have any questions and watch them play.”

North said he plans to be at the Arnold Palmer Invitational next month for some scouting work and that U.S. captain Tom Watson will also start spending more time on Tour to meet some of his potential players.
