IRVING, Texas – What a week it was for Scottie Scheffler.
On Friday, the 17-year-old made the cut. On Saturday, he had a hole-in-one. And on Sunday at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, he fired a 2-under 68 to finish inside the top-25 at his first career PGA Tour event.
“I had a lot of fun this week,” said the reigning U.S. Junior Amateur champion. “It gives me a little bit of confidence and now I have some more stuff that I can work on going forward.”
As an amateur, of course, Scheffler won’t take home a paycheck this week. When asked about that, the future Texas Longhorn related what a former one had told him.
“Jordan [Spieth] told me I would be mad when I get down to Austin next year and I don't have any money.”
