Scott may miss first playoff event for birth of child

LOS ANGELES – Adam Scott and his wife, Marie, are expecting the couple’s second child later this year, which might cause the 36-year-old to miss a playoff event.

Scott said on Thursday at the Genesis Open that his wife is due in August, around the time the PGA Tour kicks off the FedEx Cup playoffs at the Northern Trust in New York. He said he wouldn’t play the postseason lid-lifter if that were the case.

“Hopefully I can play well enough to afford it,” said Scott, who has advanced to the Tour Championship six out of the last seven years.

Scott skipped the Tournament of Champions in 2015 for the birth of his first child, a girl who was born in February.
