Siem dislocates rib before final round; finishes T-8

Marcel Siem’s unlikely bid to win the European Tour’s Race to Dubai ended in the gym.

Siem needed to win back-to-back events and get some help from Rory McIlroy to capture the season-long title. He entered the final round of the Turkish Airlines Open just one shot behind little-known Wade Ormsby, but the German dislocated a rib early Sunday morning while warming up for his round.

“It’s something I haven’t done for a year now because of my surgeries,” he said after his round. “I couldn’t really do it, and dislocated my rib. I thought I can’t even tee it up.

“Then my physio tried to crack it back in, didn’t work and we went to see the chiropractor and they pushed it back in. I had like 1,600 milligrams of ibuprofen. I couldn’t have a proper back swing, but I played all right. I don’t want to blame it on anything, to be honest.”

Siem closed with a 1-under 71 to finish in joint eighth, five shots back of Brooks Koepka
