HUMBLE, Texas – The PGA Tour concludes its two-week stay in the Lone Star State with this week’s Shell Houston Open. Here are three featured groups to watch at the Golf Club of Houston (all times ET):
At No. 4 in the OWGR, Spieth is the highest-ranked player in the field and in search of yet another high finish after his playoff win in Tampa and runner-up finish last week in San Antonio. He’ll be joined by Rose, who has struggled to find his form this season, and Els, who has made the cut in each of his six prior trips to Houston.
Reed makes his home in Houston, and he’ll be teeing it up for the first time since losing to Spieth in a playoff at Innisbrook. He’ll play alongside a pair of former SHO champions in Mickelson (2011) and Mahan (2012). With the Masters one week away, Mickelson is still in search of his first top-10 finish this season, but he has four straight top-20 finishes at this event.
This group includes three contenders from a year ago, as Kuchar lost in a playoff, Garcia finished third and Fowler finished sixth. Each remains in search of a victory this season, as Kuchar had a pair of top-three finishes in January while Garcia missed out on a playoff at the Northern Trust Open by one shot.
