Fourteen college golfers will compete in a one-day shootout at Riviera, with the medalist earning a spot in the tournament proper later that week.
Each college player will be paired with a professional alumnus and two amateur boosters. The pro and boosters will compete in a best-ball competition, with a donation of $50,000 heading to the winning university.
World No. 1 Jordan Spieth will be paired with Texas junior Beau Hossler, who made the cut at the 2012 U.S. Open and represented the U.S. at the Walker Cup last fall. Spieth has some history at the Riv: In 2012, he beat Justin Thomas in a singles match and helped the Longhorns win their first national title in 40 years.
Defending champion Will Zalatoris, a sophomore at Wake Forest who was the only player to break par last year (67), will match up with Kyle Reifers, while Georgia senior Lee McCoy will be paired with Hudson Swafford.
