Stadler opens in 65, says playing Phoenix feels like vacation

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Waste Management Phoenix Open is a home game for Scottsdale resident Kevin Stadler, who opened the event with a 6-under 65.

And while he admits there are a lot of demands on his time this week with friends and family pulling at him, he feels like the golf part is a vacation.

“I think (playing at home is) easier,” Stadler said. “You're kind of running around doing a million different things, and it's kind of like, almost a break when you get on the course.”

Stadler is making his sixth WMPO start, where his best finish was T-11 in 2013.

He’s had four top-30 finishes in five starts this season, and feels like his game is finally coming together.

“I had a great week of practice last week. … Usually start off, play pretty well on the West Coast. I'm comfortable out here.  … Just needed to catch up on the practice, and it was finally ‑ felt like the game was coming together.”
