Stefani's caddie wins closest-to-the-pin contest

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Chris Callas, Shawn Stefani’s caddie, won The Players Championship Caddie Competition on Wednesday, hitting his tee shot from 135 yards to 7 feet, 8 inches at the island-green 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.

In what may have been the closest competition in years, Callas beat Mark Chaney, James Hahn’s looper, who finished 8 feet, 3 inches away from the hole.

Callas won the purse, which was donated by each player, and for the first year the PGA Tour matched the purse and that money was donated to the Bruce Edwards Foundation, which benefits ALS research.

Edwards, who was Tom Watson’s longtime caddie, died in 2004 after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
