Stenson 'run down' but will 'give it a go' at BMW

NORTON, Mass. – It was at TPC Boston last year where the FedEx Cup title first crystalized for Henrik Stenson.

His victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship moved him into the top 5 on the point list and he closed out the season with a victory at the Tour Championship to claim the season-long title. On Monday, however, the Swede wasn’t feeling the same momentum heading into the final two post-season events.

“I guess we have more golf ahead of us. It’s that time of year when we play a lot of golf. Looking ahead to the Ryder Cup I could do with a week off. But we’ll give it a go in Denver,” said Stenson, who closed with his best round of the week (65) and was tied for 26th when he completed his round. “It wasn’t the type of defense I was looking for.”

Stenson began the week 66th on the FedEx Cup point list and although he will advance to next week’s BMW Championship his spot at the Tour Championship is far from assured.

Besides fatigue, Stenson has also been battling a neck ailment and an ongoing injury to his right wrist.

“I’m not playing poorly but I’m a little bit run down at the moment,” Stenson said. “We do the best we can. I was never in a position where I could take a playoff event off.”
