Stricker (68) only 3 back at Greenbrier

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – Steve Stricker is playing just his eighth tournament of the year, he owns just one top-10 finish and only a week-and-a-half ago he didn’t know he’d be playing here.

So of course, it stands to reason that we shouldn’t have expected much from him this week.

Instead, Stricker finds himself just three strokes out of The Greenbrier Classic lead entering the weekend following opening rounds of 66-68.

"I hit a lot of shots OK," he said. "On the green, a long distance away, ended up making a lot of good two-putts, a lot of good par saves and did a few good things here and there, but it was a tough day out there."

Stricker is seeking his 13th career PGA Tour title and first since the 2012 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
