RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Kraft Nabisco champion Lexi Thompson is officially the LPGA’s biggest hitter.
Launching driver at just about every turn Sunday, Thompson moved to No. 1 in driving distance on tour for the season, averaging 274.6 yards per drive.
Thompson finished second in driving distance among LPGA pros last year, but the stats didn’t exactly present a fair measure.
Nicole Smith won the Kia Power Drive award as the longest hitter on tour, averaging 274 yards per drive. Smith made just 11 starts a year ago and made just two cuts, so her statistical sampling was small, compared to Thompson, who also had drives measured on tougher courses than Smith, who played just one major.
