AUGUSTA, Ga. – Tiger Woods accomplished the career Grand Slam 15 years ago by winning the 2000 British Open at St. Andrews. Rory McIlroy has a chance to complete his slam this week at Augusta National.
“You couldn’t ask for a better place to do it, which is here at Augusta,” Woods said Tuesday. “It doesn’t get much better than that. So he has that opportunity and he’s going to have that opportunity for decades to come.”
You may remember that 20 years ago Jack Nicklaus said that Woods would win as many green jackets as Nicklaus (6) and Arnold Palmer combined (4). While Woods didn’t exactly put a number on McIlroy’s potential he’s confident that he will easily complete the career Grand Slam here at some point.
“I’m sure he’ll have many green jackets in his closet before it’s all said and done,” Woods said.
