The American Century Championship is officially bringing sexy back.
One of the country's premier celebrity golf tournaments has added nine-time Grammy Award winning artist Justin Timberlake to the field for its annual stop in Lake Tahoe, July 17-19.
Timberlake, an avid golfer who plays to a 6 handicap, joins a lineup of Hall of Fame athletes and entertainers, including Charles Barkley, Aaron Rodgers, Jerry Rice, John Elway, Steve Young, Cedric the Entertainer, Larry the Cable Guy and two members of the country group Rascall Flatts, among others.
“We’ve been talking to Justin Timberlake for years about joining the American Century Championship field and his schedule coincides with our tournament dates this year,” said Jon Miller, president of programming for NBC Sports, which owns and operates the tournament. “He will be a dynamic attraction for the galleries and a perfect fit with the celebrities who come to Lake Tahoe every July.”
"The Social Network" actor and former member of 'N Sync, who was previously attached to the PGA Tour's Las Vegas stop, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open from 2008-12, will now vie for part of the $600,000 purse at a tournament that raises money for multiple charities and offers free admission to military personnel and their guests.
The star-studded action from Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course will be televised on NBC, NBCSN and Golf Channel. Former Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien is the defending champion.
