Todd (66) hoping to catch Watson's eye

PARAMUS, N.J. – Brendon Todd has been one of the breakout performers on the PGA Tour this year – and he didn’t do anything to lose that honor Thursday.

Todd opened with a 5-under 66 that included seven birdies to climb the early leaderboard at The Barclays.

“It was a great day out there for me,” he said. “Four birdies in a row on the end of front nine really spurred me on and a couple bogeys there on 11 and 13 with short-game mistakes. It's going to happen out there during the course of the tournament, but nice to make a few birdies coming in.”

Todd is hoping that a big week here – and at next week’s Deutsche Bank Championship – will get the attention of U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson, who still has three wild-card selections left to make.

“I’m just trying to have a great FedEx Cup and if I can put four good rounds here this week, I'll be on my way.”
