Todd, Larrazabal play way into U.S. Open via rankings

Welcome to the 2014 U.S. Open, Brendon Todd and Pablo Larrazabal. There’s still more time, Matteo Manassero and Chesson Hadley.

The top 60 players on the Official World Golf Ranking as of this week qualified for the season’s second major at Pinehurst No. 2. Todd moved from 63rd to 57th, thanks to a T-5 at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Larrazabal moved from 65th to 59th off a T-7 at the BMW PGA Championship.

Todd was 136th in the rankings two weeks ago, but won the Byron Nelson Championship and was only two shots from a playoff at Colonial.

With Todd and Larrazabal playing their way into the top 60, two others had to fall out. Those two were Manassero and Hadley. Manassero, the 2013 BMW PGA champion, missed the cut at Wentworth and fell from 59th to 62nd. Hadley, the Puerto Rico Open champion, missed the cut at Colonial and fell from 60th to 65th.

There is still another world ranking route to Pinehurst. The top 60 following the FedEx St. Jude Classic, which concludes June 8, will also qualify for the following week’s U.S. Open.

U.S. Open sectional qualifying begins Monday, May 26 in Japan and England. It continues June 2 across 11 sites in the U.S. Click here for local qualifying results.
