CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Call it Hide and Sneak.
Martin Flores gave himself a chance to win the Wells Fargo Championship hiding his eyes from leaderboards and sneaking around them.
Flores shot 3-under-par 69 Saturday ignoring leaderboards and will tee it up Sunday in the final pairing, one shot behind J.B. Holmes (66). Flores is seeking his first PGA Tour title.
Flores, 32, was tied for the lead going to the final hole Saturday, but he didn’t know that when he hit his tee shot in the water at the 18th and made bogey.
“I didn't look at a leaderboard all day,” Flores said. “I just thought that was irrelevant, because there are so many good players out here, that if you're not attacking and trying to move forward, you can get passed. So I didn't even know where I was. I knew I was playing well. But, you know, I just didn't think the leaderboard was important.”
