GLENEAGLES, Scotland – In a week in which Europe once again came together as a team, it was only fitting that one of its least heralded players clinched the winning point to keep the Ryder Cup.
He didn’t know it, though. And so on the 15th, thinking the result was still in doubt, Donaldson hit an approach shot to within a foot of the hole that was conceded for a birdie and match victory.
“Can't really put words to it. It's unbelievable,” Donaldson said. “Obviously I knew it was all getting tight there at the end, and everybody was obviously building at my group. I was just trying to not spend too much time looking at the scoreboard and just concentrate on my match and that's what I did, and was able to do it well enough to close it out.”
For the week, Donaldson finished 3-1-0 in his first Ryder Cup appearance.
