SPRINGFIELD, N.J. – As Jhonattan Vegas made his way around Baltusrol on Tuesday he couldn’t go more than a few steps without someone congratulating him following his victory on Sunday at the RBC Canadian Open.

Vegas, who rallied from five strokes back in Canada thanks to a closing 64, is currently the last man in the PGA Championship thanks to last week’s triumph.

In fact, the two-time PGA Tour winner had a vastly different agenda planned for this week had he not gotten the 11th-hour invitation to Baltusrol.

“I actually had a great trip planned to [Las] Vegas. I was on the phone with my friends from MGM [Grand Las Vegas Hotel] and had a bunch of stuff planned,” he said. “Go out and have a few drinks. Get completely away from the routine.”

This is just Vegas’ third major and his first since the 2011 PGA, so it was an easy choice to postpone his Vegas vacation.

“You know, this [PGA] isn’t a bad plan B,” he smiled.
