Walker, Stricker among players out of playoffs

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – For some the PGA Tour season came to an abrupt end on Friday at The Northern Trust.

For a handful of players who missed the cut at Glen Oaks, it also meant that they’ve been eliminated from the playoffs, a list that includes Jimmy Walker, Brian Gay and Steve Stricker, the U.S. Presidents Cup captain.

Walker might be the biggest post-season surprise, finishing with rounds of 70-75 to drop to 110th on the projected points list (the top 100 advance to next week’s Dell Technologies Championship).

“I’m not going to touch the clubs for a while,” said Walker, who failed to advance to at least the second playoff event for the first time since 2009. “It hasn’t been fun and I would have loved to have played better, but it’s just the way it happened.”

Seung-Yul Noh, who began the week on the bubble at 100th on the points list, also missed the cut and is currently projected to drop to 108th.

Robert Garrigus teetered on the bubble all day and was safe inside the cut line until he finished his round bogey, double bogey, bogey to fall outside the top 70 and ties. It was a familiar position for Garrigus, who began last year’s playoff opener at 102nd on the points list and failed to advance.

“You play well or you go home,” Garrigus said. “It’s kind of the opposite [of pressure]. It’s like you’re playing with house money. I’ll have a month off, go hunting and fishing, enjoy the family and enjoy the kids and be a dad and a husband, which will be nice.”
