Wesley Bryan named Web.com Tour POY

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – After a lot of trial and error Wesley Bryan found the secret sauce in 2016 on the Web.com Tour.

In his first season on the secondary circuit, Bryan won in his third start (Louisiana Open), and his second triumph came a month later at the Mexico Championship. He earned a battlefield promotion to the PGA Tour with his third victory in August at the Digital Ally Open.

On Wednesday at the RSM Classic, Bryan – who before this year was better known for his trick-shot videos on social media – was named the 2016 Web.com Tour Player of the Year.

Bryan won the regular-season money title with $449,000 in earnings and made an immediate impact on the PGA Tour at the John Deere Classic, where he led after 36 holes and finished tied for eighth place.

Not bad for a guy who had largely toiled on the mini-tours since turning professional in 2012 before breaking through this year.

“It was just a matter of dumbing the game down to get the ball in the fairway and then on green, make the putt,” he said. “It’s really as easy as that, just dumb it down.”
