CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. – Billy Horschel wasn’t about to wet his pants coming up the 18th fairway a week after a lot of folks thought he figuratively soiled this pants during a disappointing finish in Boston last week.
Horschel created some momentary confusion winning the BMW Championship on Sunday after hitting his final approach shot to the 18th green. He handed his club to his caddie and then sprinted up the fairway before darting under the ropes and disappearing in the gallery.
Where was he going?
“I'm sure the whole world saw me sprint, but I had to go to the bathroom,” Horschel said. “I had been holding it for way too many holes, and I just felt like, I can sort of relax now. Let’s just go ahead and go to the bathroom before I can't go.”
Denver Post columnist Woody Paige left the media center asking his fellow writers on staff if they were going to call Horschel the “The Whiz Kid.”
Horschel didn’t hold up his fellow players, getting back in time to two putt for a two-shot victory.
