Wie: Neck better but still stiff; plans to play this week

Michelle Wie reported her neck was improving but still bothering her Tuesday after she arrived in Irving, Texas, where she’s trying to get ready to play the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout.

After withdrawing from the Swinging Skirts Classic with neck spasms Sunday, Wie was treated by Dr. Nicholas Athens, a team chiropractor for the San Francisco 49ers, according to an IMG spokesman. Wie wore a protective neck brace Monday and upon arriving at Las Colinas Country Club Tuesday morning was treated by the Top Tier Sports Medicine physiotherapists in the LPGA sports medicine trailer before heading out to practice.

“Neck is feeling a lot better thanks to @TopTierSportsMed,” Wie tweeted before a practice session. “Still stiff but thankfully no spasms.”

Wie returned to the sports medicine trailer for more work on her neck and shoulder later in the day. She is still scheduled to play in the Texas Shootout pro-am Wednesday.
