His round included eight birdies to just one bogey, and was the first 64 he’s shot since his final round at the Waste Management Phoenix Open last year. Watson’s only other 7-under round in the past year came in the first round of the Travelers last June, where par is 70.
But forget the knitty-gritty, stats and details. Watson says this season is all about celebration.
“This whole year is about rejoice,” Watson said. “So when I look back, I have to rejoice on what I have done, what I have done off the course and what I have done on the course. I have been blessed.”
With a loving wife, healthy baby boy and green jacket in tow, it’s no wonder Watson feels that way. As far as his golf, he figures it’ll all fall into place.
“You're always trying to get better and learn. So, you know, now hopefully I'm at a steppingstone where I've learned. Now if I win a few more, I get nervous again. Right now I'm in a good spot.”
