Win vaults Mahan to No. 1 in FedEx Cup playoffs

PARAMUS, N.J. – Hunter Mahan entered the opening FedEx Cup playoff event No. 62 on the points list. He left as No. 1.

With a victory at The Barclays, Mahan leapfrogged Rory McIlroy to take the pole position with three events remaining.

“This means a lot and this is kind of the biggest win in the sense of what comes with it, having a chance to win the FedEx Cup,” he explained. “A lot has changed from Saturday and Sunday, that's for sure.”

The victory also ensures that Mahan will keep an impressive streak intact.

Since the inception of the FedEx Cup, he’s the only player to compete in all 29 events so far – and now he’s guaranteed to play three more.

“That's a lot of golf. That's over a lot of years. I think that's basically saying that I haven't really had a bad year in that span and that feels really good. Like I said, there's been a lot of great players who haven't done that. I'm extremely proud of that fact.”
