Woods is coming off a last-place finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where in the second round he carded an 82, his worst-ever score as a pro.
A return to Torrey Pines usually cures all that ails the former world No. 1, but he’s finished outside the top 40 in two of his past three appearances here, including a T-80 finish last year when he missed the 54-hole cut. Prior to this skid, he hadn’t finished outside the top 10 in 11 tries at this event.
