Woods, Walker, Duf to play Begay's charity event

Tiger WoodsRyder Cup status may still be in doubt, but he is assured of playing on at least one U.S. team in the next two months.

Woods has signed on to play the Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge, a charity event scheduled for Aug. 27 at Atunyote Golf Club in New York. He missed the event last year because of back problems.

Woods will represent Team USA alongside Begay, his longtime friend and former college teammate, Jason Dufner and Jimmy Walker. Angel Cabrera, Louis Oosthuizen, Jonas Blixt and a player to be named later will tee it up for Team International. The two teams of four will compete in a combined best-ball format.

Woods likely needs at least a top-3 finish in each of his next two starts to reach the FedEx Cup playoffs. Doing so would go a long way toward helping his Ryder Cup candidacy, since he is currently No. 70 in points and unable to qualify for the team automatically.
