Mickelson triples par-3 12th, in MC danger at Masters

RSS

AUGUSTA, Ga. – This has been a Tiger-less Masters. If Phil Mickelson doesn’t rally over the final six holes of his second round, we won’t have Tiger or Phil on the weekend at the Masters for the first time since 1994.

An opening 76 left Mickelson eight shots behind leader Bill Haas. On Friday Mickelson was cruising around nicely at even par after 11 holes, but the par-3 12th proved to be disastrous.

Mickelson hit his tee shot into the bunker short of the green. His second flew into the back bunker and then his third ended in the front bunker again. Mickelson blasted out to about 16 feet, then two-putted for a triple bogey-6.

That put Mickelson at 7 over par and in jeopardy of missing the cut for only the second time in his career.

The top 50 players and ties, and anyone within 10 shots of the lead, make the cut. Bubba Watson is tournament leader at 7 under.
