Round 1 leader Haas stumbles on Friday with 78

RSS

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Bill Haas was on top of the world Thursday as leader of the Masters. After Friday, he was in the middle of the pack when he followed the opening 68 with a sloppy 78.

The first nine holes of the second round were relatively quiet but then Haas’ game went sideways in a hurry when he played the next five holes (Nos. 9-13) in 6 over par. He rebounded with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes but closed with consecutive bogeys on the last two holes.

In all, Haas only made one par in the final 10 holes. He’s tied for 26th place and is nine shots behind leader Bubba Watson.

“I found it to be very tricky today,” Haas said. “Obviously there were some good scores, better scores today than yesterday. So I can’t say that it was harder than yesterday. I just didn’t execute shots.”
