Scott's 36-hole score same as when he won

RSS

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Adam Scott has been here before. An opening nine of 39 on Friday salvaged by a closing loop of 33, and his memory only had to flash back to last year for that solace and we all know how that turned out.

It explained why the Australian wasn’t panicking after a second-round 72 left him at 3 under par and four strokes out of the lead at the Masters.

“I shot 39‑33 (actually it was 38-34, but close enough) last year, just like this,” Scott said. “It doesn't mean just because you did it last year you're going to do it again, but there's always opportunities to hit good shots on the back nine.”

Scott spiraled down the leaderboard with bogeys at three of his first five holes but rebounded with birdies at Nos. 12, 13 and 15 to keep Bubba Watson, the Day 2 leader at 7 under, within his sights.

“Anything even par or better at a major is normally a good score, especially today,” Scott said. “It kept me in the tournament.”
