Scott enjoying perks of being Masters champion

RSS

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Adam Scott always knew that his Masters victory would get better as time passed.

Sure, he enjoyed the thrill of the chase last year, but he knew that the perks he’d receive later as champion would go beyond his wildest expectations.

One of those perks happened twice over the past few days at Augusta National when Scott played a practice round with his father, Phil, on both Friday and Sunday.

“No doubt he had a great time,” Adam said Tuesday at the Masters. “And so did I.”

The defending champion admitted the match with his father was “friendly” and said they both reminisced about the putt Adam made on the 18th green in regulation last year, as well as the historic playoff-clincher on No. 10.

“Absolutely we stood on 10 and hit the putt,” he said. “The pin wasn’t quite in the position that we imagined. Eighteen was very similar because we played after the Drive, Chip and Putt.”

Mostly though, Adam was pleased that his father – a good player in his own right – could walk the fairways alongside him after years of trudging along with the gallery outside the ropes.

“I think he also developed a pretty good appreciation for how good some of the guys are out here, chipping and putting around these greens,” Adam said with a smirk.
