Wie aiming for consistency entering Kraft Nabisco

RSS

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Michelle Wie is still looking for her elusive third LPGA victory, but she’s gaining the consistency she was looking for this season.

That bodes well with Wie returning this week to the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the major she has played the best in her career.

Wie, 24, has two top-10 finishes in five LPGA starts this year. She hasn’t finished worse than T-16. She’s second on tour in hitting greens in regulation this season. She’s fifth in scoring. She’s trending in the right direction as she seeks to be a factor in majors again.

Back in 2003, Wie tied for ninth in the first major she ever played. That was here at the Kraft Nabisco. She was 13. She finished fourth here as a 14-year-old and tied for third here as a 16-year-old. She was sixth here three years ago.

“My goal this year is to be consistent,” Wie said. “I'm just going out there and trying to make a birdie or par, see where that gets me.

“Obviously, I want to win. I feel like I'm getting closer and closer. I'm just taking it day to day and working hard.”
