HOUSTON, Texas - The 32nd ranked Baylor women's golf team took first place at the Texas A&M 'Mo'Morial Invitational, winning its first tournament of the spring after taking three titles in the fall.
The team narrowly missed a first place win in their first tournament this spring placing second after posting scores of 302-311-302 (915) at the Central District Classic. After play was suspended on Monday due to rain, the Bears shot rounds of 310-300 (610) on Tuesday, outdistancing second-place Arkansas by seven strokes (617).
The Bears were led individually by senior Melanie Hagewood who posted rounds of 73-72 (145) to take first place honors. She is the first Baylor Women's golfer to take an individual title since Nicole Johnson took the 2001 Islander Fall Classic title.
Rounding out scoring for Baylor, senior Hanna-Svenningsson shot 151 (76-75) for the eighth- place tie, her second top-10 finish this spring. Junior Kelli McKandless tied for 22nd place after carding a 156 (81-75). Freshman Josefin Svenningsson carded a 158 (80-78), putting her tied for 32nd place. Junior Michaelyn Morgan individually finished in 83rd place after shooting a 171 (88-83).
Competing individually was freshman Erin Bradford who tied for 84th place (83-89=172)
Rounding out the top-five finishers of the 19-team field were Arkansas (617), Tulane (619), Indiana (623) and Kansas State (625).
