Presidents Cup

SAN FRANCISCO – Day  3 foursome pairings and prognostications from GolfChannel.com senior writers Rex Hoggard and Randall Mell, who are at Harding Park for the Presidents Cup.

All times are Eastern:

10:45 a.m. – Retief Goosen-Camilo Villegas (INT) vs. Phil Mickelson-Sean O'Hair (USA)

Rex: Lefty’s Day 1 and 2 running mate Anthony Kim got the hook for the a.m. session but expect the same result on Saturday with the game’s most explosive beanpole. USA, 3 and 2.

Randall: Mickelson picked up Leonard Friday, now he’s got a bigger task in turning O’Hair around. Lefty’s playing at another level. He kept cleaning up Kim’s messes in Thursday foursome match, and he’ll do it again for O’Hair on Saturday. USA, 1 up.

10:55 a.m. – Ernie Els-Adam Scott (INT) vs. Jim Furyk-Justin Leonard (USA)

Rex: The morning’s closest match will come down to the par-5 closing hole and the Internationals are playing the finisher like it’s at Royal Melbourne. Internationals, 1up.

Randall: Els has yet to lose this week. Scott’s showing signs he’s ready to regain his old form. This duo wins for a second time together this week. Internationals, 2 and 1.

11:05 a.m. – Robert Allenby-Vijay Singh (INT) vs. Stewart Cink-Hunter Mahan (USA)

Rex: “H” will be the spark Cink has needed and the duo will pull out a crucial victory against a tough International draw. USA, 1 up.

Randall: Mahan’s driver makes him a good foursome partner. Cink is ready to break out for his first win this week. USA, 2 up.

11:15 a.m. – Mike Weir-Tim Clark (INT) vs. Tiger Woods-Steve Stricker (USA)

Rex: Weir and Clark are being asked to tilt at the U.S. windmill and despite solid play they stand little chance against the closest thing to a match play lock since Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer were rolling over Europeans. USA, 3 and 2.

Randall: Woods and Stricker are proving an unstoppable combination; too much firepower for the diminutive International pair. USA, 4 and 3.

11:25 a.m. – Y.E. Yang-Ryo Ishikawa (INT) vs. Kenny Perry-Zach Johnson (USA)

Rex: Emotionally drained by the death of his mother last week, Perry’s struggles continue and despite solid play by Johnson the Asian duo pull out a momentum-building victory. Internationals, 2 and 1.

Randall: Internationals have found something special in this Asian combo. Yang and Ishikawa keep it going. Internationals, 1 up.

Day 3 foursome prediction results:

Rex: U.S. 3 - Internationals 2; Overall: U.S. 9.5 - Internationals 7.5

Randall: U.S. 3 - Internationals 2; Overall: U.S. 9.5 - Internationals 7.5
