COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team captured its 20th team victory under head coach Dianne Dailey as the Deacons won the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, S.C. The event was scheduled for 54-holes, but rain forced the event to be shortened to just 18.
On Friday, the Deacons shot an 8-over 296 to take a four-stroke victory over Duke.
Senior Nuria Clau led the Deacs with a 1-over-par 73 and finished in a fourth place tie, one shot behind the leaders. Fellow senior Maria Beautell finished one stroke behind Clau with a 2-over-par 74. Joining Beautell was junior Deborah Means who also shot a 2-over-par 74. Their scores of 74 placed Beautell and Means in a six-way tie for ninth. Sophomore Ashley Hoagland added a 3-over-par 75 for the Deacs, good for a 15th place tie. Freshman Julie McKenna shot a 23-over-par 95, and sophomore Lesley Jamieson, in her first collegiate action, shot a 26-over-par 98. Jamieson competed as an individual in the event.
The Lady Gamecock was contested at the University Club, which measures 5,996 yards and par is 72.
