Drive Chip Putt Set to Kick Off 2007 Season


ORLANDO, Fla. -- GOLF CHANNEL is set to roll-out its ninth season of the Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt, the worlds largest junior golf skills competition.
Eighty-three local communities throughout North America will host events in 2007, with the first local championship scheduled to take place at The Woodlands Golf Course in Houston, Texas, this Saturday.
Mutual of Omahas Drive, Chip & Putt provides a great experience for kids of all golfing abilities, and we are excited to bring this program back to junior golfers throughout North America, said John Hildenbiddle, senior vice president for Mutual of Omaha. All of the kids competing in the Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt program are winners.
A free event for junior golfers of all skill levels between the ages of 7 ' 14, the Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt presented by the GOLF CHANNEL is scheduled to host 83 local championships in 37 U.S. states and two in Canada.
Junior golfers in the local championships are divided into four age divisions and compete in three categories: driving, chipping and putting. The top-three junior golfers in each age division from the local championships will advance to one of 20 regional championships in the summer. Regional championship winners will advance to the Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt National Championships in Orlando in the fall.
Celebration Golf Club near Orlando returns as the official site for the 2007 Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip and Putt National Championships. Ranked 4-1/2 stars in the Golf Digest Best Places to Play in the 2006 ' 2007 edition, Celebration G.C. is home to the Robert Gamez Invitational benefiting the Robert Gamez Foundation. Celebration also has hosted national tournaments including the USGA Senior Open and USGA Senior Amateur Qualifiers, the Florida State Public Links Championship and the Buick Scramble National Championships.
Now in its ninth year owned and operated by the GOLF CHANNEL, the Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip and Putt junior golf program provides a fun, positive experience for junior golfers regardless of their previous experience.
