PETER KESSLER
LET'S GO AHEAD AND TALK TO ONE OF YOUR FANS. WE'VE GOT JIM IN ONTARIO. GO AHEAD JIM.

JIM, CALLER FROM ONTARIO (MALE):
HI. THANKS, PETER, FOR TAKING MY CALL. HELLO BRUCE.

BRUCE LIETZKE
HI JIM.

JIM, CALLER FROM ONTARIO (MALE):
I KNOW YOU'VE HAD SOME GREAT SUCCESS UP HERE, IN FACT, DONE THINGS THAT UH JACK NICKLAUS HASN'T DONE, THAT'S WIN THE CANADIAN OPEN A COUPLE TIMES AND WAS WONDERING IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE COMING BACK. BUT I,

I WANTED TO GET TO A POINT UH, IF I COULD, ABOUT HOW INFREQUENTLY YOU PLAY. UH, EITHER CONFIRM OR DENY, IF YOU WOULD. THERE'S A STORY SOME TIME BACK ABOUT YOUR CADDIE LEAVING A BANANA PEEL UNDERNEATH THE HEAD A GOLF CLUB, UH, HEAD COVER, RATHER,

AND WONDERING WHETHER UH YOU WOULD PLAY OR NOT. AND HE SAID, '5, 6 WEEKS LATER, THERE WAS THAT OLD BLACK BANANA SKIN AND UH, YOU HADN'T PLAYED AT ALL.' IS THAT A FACT?

BRUCE LIETZKE
WELL, YOU - YOU'VE MISSED THE, THE TIME TABLE JUST A LITTLE BIT.

JIM, CALLER FROM ONTARIO (MALE):
OKAY.

BRUCE LIETZKE
BUT MOST, MOST PEOPLE DO. UH, HE - I HAD JUST HIRED HIM IN THE MIDDLE OF 1985. ORLANDO, UH, THE DISNEY WORLD TOURNAMENT WAS THE LAST TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR. AND THAT'S BACK WHEN WE HAD A NICE LONG OFF SEASON.

I WAS FINISHED FOR THE YEAR, DIDN'T WANT TO PLAY ANYMORE, UH, TOLD HIM TO PACK UP THE BAG AND TAKE ALL THE WET TOWELS OUT AND ANYTHING THAT WAS IN THERE THAT WAS WET 'CAUSE I WASN'T GONNA TOUCH THE CLUBS, AS IT TURNS OUT, FOR 15 WEEKS.

MY NEXT TOURNAMENT WAS THE BOB HOPE TOURNAMENT. HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME. SO HE STUCK A BANANA UP IN THE HEAD COVER. UH, 15 WEEKS LATER WHEN HE TOOK THE BAG OUT OF THE TRUNK - I DIDN'T EVEN UNZIP THE BAG DURING THOSE 15 WEEKS.

IT STAYED IN THE TRAVEL COVER. AND HE WAS THE ONE THAT PULLED IT OUT OF THE TRUNK. AND HE WAS THE ONE THAT HAD TO GO BUY ME A NEW GOLF BAG AND A NEW HEAD COVER. AND THAT WAS A WOODEN DRIVER SO IT RUINED THE DRIVER TOO.

AND I'VE UH, BUT I KEPT HIM ON. I DIDN'T - BUT HE NEVER DOUBTED ME AGAIN. THAT WAS THE - THE LAST TIME UH HE DOUBTED ME.

PETER KESSLER
ABOUT ANYTHING. (LAUGH)

BRUCE LIETZKE
YEAH, YEAH.

PETER KESSLER
LET'S CHECK IN WITH BOB IN ILLINOIS. HOW ARE YOU, BOB?

BOB, CALLER FROM ILLINOIS (MALE):
GOOD PETER, HOW YOU DOING?

PETER KESSLER
VERY WELL, THANKS.

BOB, CALLER FROM ILLINOIS (MALE):
HOW'S BRUCE TONIGHT?

BRUCE LIETZKE
I'M OKAY, BOB. THANKS.

BOB, CALLER FROM ILLINOIS (MALE):
UH, MY QUESTION GOES BACK TO THE 1999 RYDER CUP. UH, YOU WERE THE ASSISTANT CAPTAIN TO BEN CRENSHAW. AND CERTAINLY THERE WAS A LOT OF CONTROVERSY ABOUT, UM, THE REACTION, REALLY, BY THE EUROPEANS, UH,

TO THE CELEBRATION AFTER JUSTIN LEONARD SANK THAT PUTT. AND I'VE READ A LOT ABOUT IT, BUT I'VE NEVER REALLY HEARD YOUR TAKE ON THAT AND YOUR OPINION OF IT.

BRUCE LIETZKE
WELL, I WAS ON THE BACK OF THE GREEN. AND I GOT PRETTY EXCITED TOO. UH, WE WERE THERE WITH WIVES, CADDIES, PLAYERS. UH, I STILL THINK IF - IF ...

I'M BLAMING JUSTIN. IF HE HADN'T RUN TOWARD THE BACK OF THE GREEN WHERE MOST OF US WERE, I THINK WE WOULD HAVE JUST UH, JUST CELEBRATED ON THE SIDE. BUT HE CAME RUNNING BACK AND A LOT OF GUYS JUST TOOK THAT AS A CELEBRATION, UH,

ACT AND, AND A LOT OF GUYS RAN OUT THERE. AND I ACTUALLY GOT UP FROM WHERE I WAS SITTING AND STARTED RUNNING OUT THERE AND REALIZED, UH, THAT UH,

JOSE MARIA STILL HAD HIS PUTT TO GO. AND WE, WE SHUFFLED EVERYBODY OFF. UH, IT ... IT WAS UNFORTUNATE, UH, BUT WE, WE'VE APOLOGIZED ENOUGH. AND IT WAS SUCH A GREAT MOMENT, UH, AND WE JUST GOT CAUGHT UP IN THE MOMENT. AND, AND IT GOT OVER QUICK.

UH, IT WAS MAYBE OVER IN 20 SECONDS. UH, I ASSURE YOU NOBODY RAN ACROSS HIS LINE. HE WAS CERTAINLY DISTRACTED, AND - AND I UNDERSTAND THAT. AND ACTUALLY I DON'T BLAME THE EUROPEANS FOR THEIR, UH, FOR THEIR REACTION.

UM, BUT IT'S, IT WAS UNFORTUNATE AND IT'S OVER. UH, AND I DON'T THINK WE NEED TO APOLOGIZE ANYMORE. AND, AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT RYDER CUP THIS YEAR. UH, CURTIS STRANGE WILL DO A GREAT JOB.

SAM TORRANCE WILL GOOD - DO A GOOD JOB. AND WE'RE GONNA SEE SOME GREAT MATCHES.

PETER KESSLER
I WOULDN'T WANT TO DISOBEY ANYTHING THAT CURTIS HAD TO SAY TO ME. (GIGGLE)

BRUCE LIETZKE
NO, SIR. NO, SIR.

PETER KESSLER
LET'S TALK TO MICHAEL IN PENNSYLVANIA. HELLO MICHAEL.

MICHAEL, CALLER FROM PENNSYLVANIA (MALE):
HI PETER. HOW ARE YOU?

PETER KESSLER
VERY WELL. THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.

MICHAEL, CALLER FROM PENNSYLVANIA (MALE):
THANKS FOR TAKING MY CALL BRUCE, I JUST WANTED TO SAY I'VE BEEN WATCHING YOU OVER THE YEARS, AND I REALLY ADMIRE YOUR PRIORITIES IN BALANCING GOLF AND FAMILY.

AND NOW THAT YOUR CHILDREN ARE OLDER AND LOOKING INTO THE SENIOR TOUR, ARE YOU GONNA DEDICATE MORE TIME AND CHANGE YOUR PRACTICING HABITS TO PREPARE FOR THE SENIOR PGA?

BRUCE LIETZKE
UH, PRACTICE HABITS WILL PROBABLY STAY, UH, THE SAME. I ... I WILL NOT PLAY ANY GOLF ON THE WEEKS THAT I DO GO HOME. AND I'M GONNA KEEP MY PLAY AROUND 20 TOURNAMENTS, UH, UNTIL I GET MY 2 KIDS OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.

UH, THIS COMING YEAR, I HAVE A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL AND A SOPHOMORE IN HIGH SCHOOL. SO I'VE STILL GOT ABOUT A 3 YEAR, UH, DUTY, UH, TO GET THOSE KIDS THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL AND BE AT HOME ENOUGH TO, TO MAKE SURE THAT HAPPENS.

UH, MY, MY PRACTICE HABITS WON'T CHANGE. WHEN I GO TO A TOURNAMENT, I'M VERY SERIOUS. I PLAY ONLY ON THE TOURNAMENT COURSE. I DON'T GO, UH, SIGHTSEEING. I DON'T LOOK AT OTHER GOLF COURSES. UH,

MY FIRST YEAR ON, ON THE SENIOR TOUR, I'LL BE PLAYING 2 DAY PRO-AMS, WHICH IS VERY FORTUNATE, UH, THOSE ARE GOOD PRACTICE ROUNDS, AND THEN 3 DAY TOURNAMENTS. UH, MY, MY PRACTICE, UH, HABITS WON'T CHANGE.

MY SWING HOPEFULLY WON'T CHANGE. UH, WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME FOR THE LAST 27 YEARS, I EXPECT UH WILL CONTINUE TO WORK, UH, FOR MY 8 OR 10 YEAR, UH, SENIOR CAREER, IS WHAT I EXPECT TO PLAY. AND UH, NOT, NOT MANY THINGS ARE GONNA CHANGE.

BRUCE LIETZKE
AS WE TAKE A BREAK, WE'RE GONNA TAKE A LOOK AT AN EXCERPT FROM AN UPCOMING SERIES ON THE GOLF CHANNEL PRODUCED BY DAVID CAYMANS (SPELLING???) CALLED 'PLAYING WITH THE PROS.' HERE'S A VERY, VERY SERIOUS MOMENT.

(IN THE VIDEO CLIP)
THIS IS A VERY DISTRACTING HOLE FOR ME. I NORMALLY WOULD PROBABLY 2-PUTT FROM HERE. BUT I HAPPEN TO KNOW THAT THERE'S A VERY LARGE BASS THAT LIVES RIGHT NEAR THAT OVERFLOW IN THE LAKE THERE.

AND NO MATTER HOW, NO MATTER HOW WELL I MIGHT BE CONCENTRATING ON MY GOLF GAME, AND I COULD BE 11 UNDER PAR GOING IN TO THIS HOLE, SOMETHING KEEPS PULLING MY ATTENTION OVER THERE TO THAT OVERFLOW, I KNOW

AND HE WAS ABOUT 8 POUNDS THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM. THAT'S BEEN A WHILE, SO HE'S PROBABLY UP AROUND 9 POUNDS NOW.

AND IF I CAN 2-PUTT NOW WHILE I'M THINKING ABOUT ALL THE BASS THAT ARE IN THAT POND, THEN MAYBE MY CONCENTRATION IS BETTER THAN I THINK IT IS.

I CAN HEAR HIM SWIMMING OVER THERE. HE'S PROBABLY EATING THOSE GOLF BALLS THAT JUST FLEW INTO THE LAKE A COUPLE SECONDS AGO.

THAT'S GOT A CHANCE. NO, IT'S BREAKING TOWARD THE BASS - I MEAN, IT'S BREAKING TOWARD THE LAKE.

HE CURSED, THAT BASS CURSED THAT BALL THERE. IT WAS GOING INTO THE HOLE.
