PETER KESSLER
I UNDERSTAND YOUR FRIEND MARK CALCAVECCHIA IS THINKING OF PLAYING FROM THE LEFT SIDE. HE'S CALLED IN TO GET A COUPLE OF TIPS AS I UNDERSTAND IT. RIGHT CALC?

MIKE WEIR
IT'S TOO EASY, RIGHT HANDED FOR HIM LATELY.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
THAT'S RIGHT. HEY WEIRSIE.

MIKE WEIR
HEY CALC.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
HEY GREAT PLAYING AT DORAL, BY THE WAY.

MIKE WEIR
THANKS MAN.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
I HAD TO CALL UP AND SAY A FEW THINGS, I KNOW, I KNOW YOU'RE ONE OF THE HARDEST WORKERS OUT HERE AND IT'S GREAT TO SEE THAT ALL THE HARD WORK'S PAYING OFF FOR YOU.

MIKE WEIR
ALRIGHT, THANKS, MARK.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
YEAH, YOU KNOW, I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO BE A GREAT PLAYER WHEN, WHEN YOU WON AT VANCOUVER WHEN YOU MADE THAT EAGLE ON THE 14TH HOLE THERE. YOU KNOW AS YOU KNOW, IT TAKES A HECK OF A PLAYER TO WIN THAT
TOURNEY.

MIKE WEIR
(LAUGHING) YEAH, EXACTLY. EXACTLY. YOU WON IT IN '98?

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
UH I CAN'T REMEMBER.

PETER KESSLER
(LAUGHING)

MIKE WEIR
YOU HAVEN'T, YOU HAVEN'T BEEN BACK, YOU HAVEN'T BEEN BACK SINCE.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
NINETY... '97 I THINK ACTUALLY.

MIKE WEIR
YOU HAVEN'T BEEN BACK SINCE. COME ON.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
YES I HAVE. I WAS THERE LAST YEAR, (UNINTELLIGIBLE)

MIKE WEIR
OKAY

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
OTHER YEAR BUT

MIKE WEIR
OKAY

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
20:ANYWAY LASTLY I HAD TO CALL UP AND GIVE YOU A, I HAD TO CALL UP AND ROUGH YOU UP A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT MUSTACHE LOOK YOU HAD GOING.

MIKE WEIR
OH!

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
I ABOUT FELL OFF THE COUCH WHEN I SAW THAT PICTURE.

MIKE WEIR
(LAUGHS)

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
WELL YOU'RE, YOU'RE NOT PLANNING ON WHIPPING THAT LOOK OUT ANYTIME SOON, ARE YOU?

PETER KESSLER
WHAT ABOUT THE ONE WITH THE LONG HAIR, CALC?

MIKE WEIR
NO... .NO I WON'T GET THAT. YOU KNOW I, I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET THE 'STACHE. I CAN'T GET THE HAIR GOING ANYMORE, BUT I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET THE 'STACHE GOING (LAUGHS)

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
UH... THAT WAS GOOD. WELL ANYWAY I'M ENJOYING THE SHOW. I DON'T, I REALLY DON'T HAVE ANY, OH I DO HAVE A GOLF QUESTION FOR YOU.

PETER KESSLER
OH GO AHEAD CAL.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
UH, I NOTICED ON THE TELECAST THIS WEEK THAT, TO ME IT LOOKED LIKE YOU WERE STANDING A LOT CLOSER TO YOUR, YOUR BALL WHEN YOU PUTT. WAS, WAS THAT A CONSCIOUS EFFORT OR DID IT JUST KIND OF CREEP IN THERE?

MIKE WEIR
UH NO ACTUALLY IT WAS. I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET MY EYES OVER THE BALL A LITTLE BIT MORE AND, I WAS WATCHING SOME TAPE OF WHEN I WON THE Q-SCHOOL AND I NOTICED WHEN I WON THAT Q-SCHOOL I WAS STANDING A LOT CLOSER TO THE BALL AND I'VE BEEN STRUGGLING

A LITTLE BIT WITH MY PUTTER SO I THOUGHT I'D STAND CLOSER TO IT, BUT, I MIGHT HAVE TO GO TO THE CLAW.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
OH YEAH, I, I THINK YOU,

MIKE WEIR
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
I THINK YOU'RE DOING FINE. I THINK YOU'RE DOING FINE WITH WHAT YOU'VE GOT GOING.

MIKE WEIR
(LAUGHS)

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
ANYWAY, GREAT PLAYING AND WE'LL SEE YOU NEXT WEEK OR THE WEEK AFTER.

MIKE WEIR
THANKS CALC.

PETER KESSLER
20:HEY CALC

MIKE WEIR
SEE YOU MAN

PETER KESSLER
20:CALC

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
YEAH

PETER KESSLER
20:BEFORE YOU GO AWAY. TO WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE YOUR GREAT PLAY ON THE GREENS AND TO THE GREENS LATELY?

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
WELL, UH THE, THE CLAW (?) WAS THE WHOLE THING FOR ME. I WAS JUST LOOKING AT MY STATS TODAY ACTUALLY AND I LIKE, WANTED TO FRAME IT. I NOTICED I WAS FIRST IN

MIKE WEIR
(LAUGHS)

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
IN PUTTS HIT PER GREEN AND FIRST HIT IN TOTAL PUTTS AND, AND LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME I THINK I WAS LIKE 191ST.

(PETER AND MIKE LAUGH)

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
SO UH THERE YOU HAVE IT. THE, THE GRIP MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD FOR ME. IT JUST TOOK MY RIGHT HAND OUT OF EVERYTHING AND I'M JUST REALLY ABLE TO KEEP EVERYTHING PRETTY SMOOTH AND JUST HIT ALL MY PUTTS REALLY SOLID

PETER KESSLER
RIGHT

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
AND THAT'S THE BIGGEST THING.

PETER KESSLER
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR GREAT SUCCESS.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
THANKS

MIKE WEIR
THANKS FOR (?) CALL

PETER KESSLER
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
OKAY

PETER KESSLER
20:TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.

MARK CALCAVECCHIA, TOUR PLAYER (MALE):
ALRIGHT

MIKE WEIR
20:SEE YOU MARK

PETER KESSLER
BYE.

SO WHY DON'T WE GO CHECK OUT THE AIR CANADA WHICH ACCORDING TO CALC IS THE HARDEST GOLF TOURNAMENT IN THE WORLD TO WIN AND WHY DON'T WE GO AHEAD AND START ON 14 AS YOU'RE TIED FOR THE LEAD, AND GETTING READY TO HIT THIS 8 IRON.

MIKE WEIR
WELL I JUST MADE A BOGIE THE HOLE BEFORE AND I KNEW I NEEDED TO HIT A SOLID SHOT HERE AND IT'S FUNNY, WHEN I WAS STANDING THERE I, I TOLD BRENNAN, MY CADDIE, THAT, FOR SOME REASON

THAT WEEKEND I LIPPED OUT PROBABLY THREE OR FOUR SHOTS FROM THE FAIRWAY AND I SAID IT MIGHT BE TIME TO HOLE ONE HERE AND YOU KNOW IT WAS, IT WAS KIND OF IRONIC THAT IT HAPPENED

RIGHT THEN, BUT IT WAS THE MOST EXCITING I'VE EVER, EXCITING MOMENT I'VE EVER HAD ON THE GOLF COURSE. ESPECIALLY THE CONDITIONS WERE GETTING TOUGH AND THE WAY THE COURSE SETS UP, CARLOS AND FRED FUNK

WHO ARE, CARLOS AND FRED FUNK WERE RIGHT ACROSS THAT POND ON THE OTHER FAIRWAY SO THEY GAVE ME THE WAVE AND I WAS SAVING BACK TO THEM THERE AND, IT WAS NEAT.

PETER KESSLER
NOW OF COURSE THE TOURNAMENT DIDN'T END ON THE 14TH HOLE, AND FREDDIE BIRDIED 16 AND 17. YOU BIRDIED 16.

MIKE WEIR
YUP

PETER KESSLER
AND HIT YOUR SECOND SHOT ONTO 18 WHERE YOU HAD HAD SOME LESS THAN HAPPY PRIOR EXPERIENCES THAT SECOND SHOT ON THAT PARTICULAR HOLE, AND WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT THE 80 FOOTER

THAT IT LOOKS LIKE YOU NEED TO

MIKE WEIR
YEAH

PETER KESSLER
TWO PUTT... TO WIN, AND WE'LL SEE THAT IN JUST A MOMENT AS YOU'RE

MIKE WEIR
YEAH

PETER KESSLER
IS THIS

MIKE WEIR
IT WAS, IT WAS, IT WAS JUST LIKE A MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP, THE FEELING. IT WAS, IT FELT LIKE THE BRITISH OPEN BECAUSE THE WEATHER WAS, YOU KNOW, IT DROPPED

PROBABLY 20 DEGREES. IT WAS COLD, AND JUST THE, THE FANS WERE JUST UNBELIEVABLE THERE. YOU KNOW, I HIT, THAT WAS PROBABLY AS GOOD A SHOT AS I, AS I MADE AT 14 UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND IT WAS DOWNWIND. YOU KNOW, RIGHT TOWARDS THE WATER

AND IN THAT SITUATION YOU DON'T WANT TO LEAVE YOURSELF WITH MUCH LEFT, ESPECIALLY GOING FOR MY FIRST WIN.

PETER KESSLER
YOU CAN READ THE LOGO AS IT WAS GOING DOWN THE LAST TEN FEET.

MIKE WEIR
YEAH, YEAH, I MEAN IT WAS BARELY MOVING, SO IT WAS NICE JUST TO HAVE A LITTLE KICK IN THE WIND THERE. IT WAS REALLY EXCITING.

PETER KESSLER
IS IT MORE PRESSURE DO YOU THINK TO TRY TO WIN AT HOME OR MORE COMFORTABLE TO TRY TO WIN AT HOME?

MIKE WEIR
UM... I THINK THERE FOR SOME REASON I WAS, I WAS VERY COMFORTABLE. I THINK BEFORE I WAS, I FELT LIKE IT WAS A LOT MORE PRESSURE BUT THAT WEEK FOR SOME REASON I WAS JUST, REALLY, THERE'S MY BUDDY CRAIG MERLOW AND I JUST FELT, I FELT VERY CALM THAT WEEK.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. I THINK, IT CAME TWO WEEKS AFTER THE PGA WHERE YOU KNOW, I BLEW IT ON THE LAST DAY AND YOU KNOW SO, FOR SOME REASON I JUST FELT VERY CALM, AND VERY, VERY COMFORTABLE. YOU KNOW I BOGIED

THE FIRST HOLE THE LAST DAY AND STAYED VERY PATIENT, YOU KNOW, I, I, I REALLY GAINED A LOT FROM THAT PGA EXPERIENCE. I STAYED PATIENT. DIDN'T FORCE THINGS, AFTER BOGIEING THE

FIRST HOLE AND FROM THERE ON OUT, YOU KNOW, THINGS JUST FELL INTO PLACE. I MEAN I HOLED EVER PUTT I
LOOKED AT AND HAPPENED TO HIT, YOU KNOW, A BUNCH OF GREAT SHOTS TOO.

PETER KESSLER
I REMEMBER TOM WATSON IN '74 SHOOTING 79 AT THE U.S. OPEN AT WINGED FOOT AND STILL HADN'T WON ON TOUR, AND OF COURSE A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, HE WON, SIGHT AT THE WESTERN OPEN IF I'VE GOT IT RIGHT.

MIKE WEIR
RIGHT

PETER KESSLER
SIGHTING THE FACT THAT HE HAD LEARNED AN AWFUL LOT FROM SHOOTING A ROUND NEAR 80 IN THE FINAL ROUND OF A MAJOR

MIKE WEIR
YEAH

PETER KESSLER
20:TO HELP HIM.

MIKE WEIR
RIGHT. YOU GOT TO LEARN FROM EVERY EXPERIENCE, YOU KNOW, EVEN JUST THIS PAST WEEK IN MIAMI YOU GOT TO LEARN FROM, TRY TO LEARN FROM THAT. MISSING THE CUT THE WEEK BEFORE, I, I MADE A COUPLE, YOU KNOW, TERRIBLE DECISIONS, THAT I MADE A TRIPLE BOGIE

COMING IN TO MISS A CUT AND YOU'VE GOT TO LEARN FROM THOSE THINGS TOO AND YOU GOT TO TAKE THE GOOD WITH THE BAD WITH THIS GAME AND YOU CAN LEARN A LOT MORE FROM, FROM, YOU KNOW A DISAPPOINTMENT THAN YOU CAN PROBABLY FROM WINNING A TOURNAMENT.

PETER KESSLER
I THINK YOU PLAYED 5 TIMES THIS YEAR. YOU'VE GOT THREE FINISHES INSIDE THE TOP TEN SO, BUT YOU CAN HANDLE THE MIS-CUT.

MIKE WEIR
YEAH I CAN HANDLE A MIS-CUT ONCE IN A WHILE.

(PETER AND MIKE LAUGH)

PETER KESSLER
WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK AND AS WE LEAVE YOU FOR JUST A SECOND LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT HOW LEFTIES HAVE DONE AND HOW FELLOWS FROM CANADIAN HAVE DONE, FROM CANADIAN, FROM CANADA, ON THE PGA TOUR.
