PETER KESSLER
WELCOME BACK. A GREAT PLEASURE TO BE JOINED BY JUDY RANKIN. CONGRATULATIONS.

JUDY RANKIN
THANK YOU.

PETER KESSLER
YOUR DAD SAID TO YOU ONCE, YOU CAN DO THIS. WHEN DID YOU BELIEVE HIM?

JUDY RANKIN
AFTER I DID IT.

(KESSLER AND RANKIN LAUGH)

JUDY RANKIN
UM. I W.. I WAS NEVER FULL OF CONFIDENCE. I WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAD TO HAVE ALL OF MY DUCKS IN A ROW. I HAD TO HAVE PRACTICED THE RIGHT AMOUNT. I HAD TO, I HAD TO KNOW THE GOLF COURSE. I HAD TO THIS, THAT AND THE

OTHER BECAUSE I DIDN'T REALLY BELIEVE THAT AND I GUESS, YOU KNOW, WHEN I WON THE COLGATE DINAH SHORE IN 1976, I HAD, I WAS, RUNNING OVER WITH CONFIDENCE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE AND I WON THE NEXT WEEK BY EIGHT SHOTS AND SO I, I HAVE UNDERSTOOD WHAT CONFIDENCE DOES FOR A GOOD PLAYER BUT I DIDN'T ALWAYS HAVE IT.

PETER KESSLER
YOU MENTIONED '76. '76 AND'77 WERE VERY COMPARABLE TO THE YEARS THAT KARRIE WEBB HAS JUST HAD BACK TO BACK IN '99 AND 2000. WHAT DID IT TAKE TO DO IT AND WHAT DID IT TAKE OUT OF YOU TO DO WHAT YOU DID IN THOSE TWO YEARS?

JUDY RANKIN
UM, IT TOOK IT TOOK EVERYTHING TO DO IT. IT TOOK EVERYTHING FROM ME, IT TOOK EVERYTHING FROM THOSE PEOPLE CLOSE TO ME. YOU KNOW, YOUR FAMILY INVESTS A GREAT DEAL IN BEING INTENSE AND GOOD AT ANYTHING, I THINK. I, I SUPPOSE IT WOULD RELATE TO ALL KINDS OF THINGS IN LIFE, BUT CERTAINLY IN A SPORT, YOUR FAMILY REALLY HAS TO BE THERE AND MAKING SACRIFICES JUST LIKE YOU ARE AS A PLAYER, SO, IT, IT TOOK ALL

OF THAT, AND IT TOOK EVERYTHING OUT OF ME TOO. I, I THINK SOME PLAYERS, AND I WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THOSE PLAYERS WHO PLAYS WITH A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF INTENSITY. MAYBE, MAYBE THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO LAST AS LONG, I DON'T KNOW.

PETER KESSLER
WHEN YOU WERE GIVING YOUR INDUCTION SPEECH TODAY, YOU GOT PARTICULARLY EMOTIONAL TALKING ABOUT YOUR SON, AND MY SENSE WAS, LISTENING TO YOU THAT, DURING THE TIME THAT YOU WERE BEING A GREAT PLAYER AND TORN BETWEEN HOME AND YOUR CAREER, THAT, THAT THERE WAS A PRETTY STRONG SENSE OF GUILT THAT YOU FELT THEN THAT YOU DON'T FEEL ANYMORE. IS THAT TRUE?

JUDY RANKIN
WELL I DON'T KNOW IF GUILT IS THE RIGHT WORD, BUT IT'S PARTICULARLY HARD WITH AN ONLY CHILD. THERE'S A LONELINESS FOR AN ONLY CHILD WHEN THEY'RE LEFT AT HOME WITH SOMEONE TAKING CARE OF THEM, THAT YOU MIGHT
NOT HAVE IF YOU HAVE THREE OR FOUR CHILDREN.

GUILT MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT WORD, UM, BUT CERTAINLY I WISH THAT THERE WERE TIMES I COULD GO BACK TO AND PUT MY ARM AROUND HIM RATHER THAN HAVING BEEN GONE. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN IS, AND THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE OF THE COIN. HE SAW A LOT OF THE WORLD WITH ME AND HE REAPED A LOT OF BENEFITS FROM MY

PLAYING PROFESSIONAL GOLF AND HAVING SOME SUCCESS, AND HE WOULD BE THE FIRST ONE TO TELL YOU THAT. I THINK THE, THE BLESSING IS, THAT HE WAS THE KIND OF CHILD AND PERSON, THAT COULD HAVE HAD EVERYTHING
GO WRONG AND DIDN'T.

PETER KESSLER
THE LPGA'S JUST DESIGNATED THE WOMEN'S BRITISH OPEN AS IT'S 4TH MAJOR WITH GREAT ROTATION OF GOLF COURSES. WHAT'S YOUR REACTION? WHAT DO YOU THINK THE GENERAL REACTION IS AMONG THE PLAYERS?

JUDY RANKIN
UH, MY REACTION IS GREAT, AND, AND ONE LITTLE PIECE OF THE GREAT REACTION IS NEXT YEAR IT GOES TO SUNNINGDALE, WHICH WOULD BE MY FAVORITE PLACE ON THE PLANET IF YOU WERE TO PLAY GOLF. IT'S ONE OF THE PLACES THAT STARTED TO BRING THE HISTORY OF GOLF TO ME AND MORE OF

MORE OF A LOVE OF THE GAME AND A LOVE OF IT'S SPECIAL PLACES THAN I HAD AS A YOUNGER PERSON, BUT I, I THINK I THINK IT'S A GREAT THING FOR WOMEN'S GOLF. FOR THE WOMEN'S BRITISH,

BECAUSE HISTORICALLY, IT IS AN IMPORTANT PLACE TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP AND I THINK THAT IT'S NOW GOING TO HAVE IT'S IMPORTANT PLACE IN WOMEN'S GOLF.

PETER KESSLER
IF YOU HAD A VERY SHORT WISH LIST FOR WOMEN'S' GOLF FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS, WHAT MIGHT BE ON IT?

JUDY RANKIN
SOMEBODY JUST ASKED ME THAT IN AN INTERVIEW, PETER, IT'S INTERESTING. WHAT WOULD BE, WHAT WOULD BE THE ONE THING I WOULD WISH AND, AND, HAVING STUDIED GOLF AND CERTAINLY A LOT OF OTHER SPORTS IN THE LAST FEW

YEARS, IF I COULD WISH ONE THING FOR WOMEN'S GOLF, I WOULD WISH BIG CROWDS, BECAUSE THE GOLF IS THERE, THE GREAT COMPETITION IS THERE, THE EXCITEMENT IS THERE, BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE TO ENJOY IT. MANY WEEKS THEY HAVE ALL THOSE PEOPLE TO ENJOY IT. SOME WEEKS THEY NEED MORE.

I THINK IF THEY GOT THE CROWDS THAT THEY ARE DESERVING OF, WITH THE LEVEL OF GOLF AND THE LEVEL OF COMPETITION, THERE WOULD BE A GREAT DEAL MORE EXCITEMENT IN WOMEN'S GOLF.

PETER KESSLER
IT'S BEEN A GREAT YEAR FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.

JUDY RANKIN
THANK YOU
