John Daly withdraws from this weeks Abu Dhabi Golf Championship


2007 Abu Dhabi Golf ChampionshipAccording to New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell's Web site on Tuesday, John Daly has pulled out of this week's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship stating to tournament officials that his game 'was not yet up to shape.'
In an endorsement deal with Fly Emirates, which was going to pay for his travel expenses, Daly had all three upcoming events in the Middle East on his schedule while he serves his six-month suspension on the PGA Tour. Daly remains in the field for next week's Qatar Masters.
Another notable withdrawal from the $2 million tournament at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club came yesterday when Ian Poulter pulled out in order to undergo corrective eye surgery.
'I have been having a problem with my vision in poor light, and my doctors have advised me that I should have this surgery as soon as possible to prevent further deterioration,' the English golfer said in a statement. 'I am relieved that the problem can be corrected with surgery, but very disappointed to miss one of my favorite events on the schedule.'
In other European Tour news, on Tuesday Anthony Kim and Colin Montgomerie committed to play in the Johnnie Walker Classic, February 19-22 at The Vines Resort & Country Club in Perth, Western Australia.
The tournament already boasts an elite field which includes Greg Norman, Camilo Villegas, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.
