GREEN LAKE, Wis. ' Add another national championship trophy to the case for the Methodist Lady Monarch womens golf team.
Methodist ran away with the 2003 NCAA Division III Womens Golf national championship on Friday at the Golf Course of Lawsonia, winning the tournament by an NCAA Division III record 53 strokes. Methodist shot a 321 in the final round and finished with a four-round score of 1,296.
Mary-Hardin Baylor finished second with a 1,349, followed by DePauw with a 1,350, St. Marys with a 1,354 and Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished fifth with a 1,362.
The national championship was the sixth straight for Methodist, and the 16th in the last 18 seasons. It was the initial national championship for first-year Lady Monarch head coach Vici Pate.
Individually for the Lady Monarchs, Jessie Hunter finished second with an overall score of 319, while Michelle Meadows finished tied for third with a 323. Hope Thomas finished tied for eighth with a 331, and Melissa Arnett placed 11th with a score of 323.
Jennifer Lymangood rounded out the Methodist scoring with a 328, finishing tied for 18th.
