Oklahoma State Out Front at Maxwell

College CentralARDMORE, Okla. - Oklahoma States mens golf team carded a 9-under-par 551 total during the first day of competition at The Maxwell to stand in first place with 18 holes remaining at Dornick Hills Country Club.
 
The Cowboys opened the tournament with an even-par 280 before blistering the par-70, 6,442-yard layout with a second-round 271 to take a commanding 13-shot lead over SMU.
 
OSU junior Hunter Mahan will enter play tomorrow tied with Oklahomas Blake Martin atop the individual leaderboard after carding rounds of 67 and 68 to come in at five-under, while redshirt freshman Zack Robinson followed up a first-round 70 with a 68 during the afternoon round to finish the day tied for fourth place at 138, two-under.
 
Junior Pr Nilsson rebounded from a 75 during his first round with a 67 to climb from a tie for 39th place into a group of players tied for 18th at 2-over that includes sophomore Alex Norn, who turned in rounds of 74 and 68 for the Cowboys.
 
Freshman Chris Clarke slipped from a tie for third into 27th place after posting a 4-over 74 during the afternoon, giving him a 143, 3-over total.
 
Three OSU players, sophomore Dayton Rose, senior J.C. DeLeon and redshirt freshman Stewart Dodson, are competing in the event as individuals as well. Rose came back from a 75 during the morning round with a 69 to tie for 30th, while DeLeon shaved eight strokes off his first round total with a 71 to come in at 10-over-par and tied for 67 with a 150 total.
 
Dodson posted rounds of 81 and 79 to finish the day tied for 84th place.
 
The 15-team field will return to the course tomorrow morning for the events final round.
