Pavin denies Golf Channel report Gray stands by story

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin said Wednesday that Tiger Woods is high on his list as a wild-card pick if Woods doesn’t qualify after the PGA Championship. Pavin says a Golf Channel report that quoted him as saying he would pick Woods because he’s the best player in the world was wrong.
'There's nobody that's promised any picks right now,” Pavin said. “It would be disrespectful to everybody that's trying to make the team. I've got quite a few people I'm looking at. I would not disrespect any of the players that are potential players on the team, and obviously there was a misinterpretation of what I said, and that is an incorrect quote.'
Golf Channel contributor Jim Gray stands by his quote from Corey Pavin that the U.S. Ryder Cup captain would definitely use a captain's pick on Tiger Woods. Pavin denied making that comment Wednesday morning on his Twitter page.

After Pavin’s news conference, Golf Channel contributor Jim Gray, who broke the story Tuesday, approached Pavin to discuss the disagreement. According to Pavin’s wife, who was standing next to him, Gray told Pavin that he was a “liar” and “you’re going down.”
In a statement Golf Channel said it stands behind the accuracy of Gray’s report. “As far as any subsequent conversation between Gray and Pavin, it was meant to be private and should remain as such,” the statement said.

On Wednesday afternoon Gray said, “I did not misquote Corey Pavin. I stand 100 percent behind my story. He challenged my credibility and I felt that that a private conversation with Corey was needed. At no time during that conversation was anybody threatened. It is time to move on now and talk about the PGA Championship.”
