HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- After two rounds of play at the NCAA Division II National Championships, the Rollins College womens golf team has run away with the lead. The Tars shot a second-round score of 307 to put their total at 622, while second-place Florida Southern has shot a team total of 651 to put them 29 strokes behind Rollins.
Charlotte Campbell and Freddie Seeholzer lead the Tars, and are tied for second place in the individual standings with a score of 152, six over par. Both shot second-round scores of 74 to lead the entire field of 48 players. Sabrina Gassner also ranks in the top 10 with a 157 to stand in ninth. Mariana De Biase improved by a stroke on day two and has a two-round total of 161 to rank in a tie for 11th. Jennifer Beames overcame a tough first round and improved her score by 16 strokes. Beames shot a second-round score of 81 and stands in a tie for 25th.
The Tars' toughest competition is in the individual standings, where three players not at the tournament with their teams rank in the top 10. Kim Keyer-Scott, playing as an individual from Northern Kentucky, has shot a 74-77=151 to lead Campbell and Seeholzer by a single stroke.
Third-round action will begin tomorrow morning, May 16. The first of Rollins' golfers will tee off at 9:50 a.m., and the rest are set to follow in 10-minute increments until 10:30 a.m.
