Tavistock CupORLANDO, Fla. -- The competition is heating up as team captains Mark OMeara and Ernie Els prepare to lead their team of fellow Isleworth and Lake Nona members in the 2008 Tavistock Cup presented by Citi Private Bank.

Some of golfs biggest names are returning for another year of competition while others will be making their Tavistock Cup debut. Held Monday and Tuesday, March 24 and 25 at Isleworth Golf & Country Club, the Tavistock Cup is a unique competition bringing together crosstown rivals in the ultimate showdown to determine the World Golf and Country Club Champion. Players will compete for a purse of $3.88 million and team hole-in-one prizes including 2009 Cadillac Escalade hybrids, Correct Craft Air Nautique boats, Full Swing Golf simulators and more.

This invitation-only event for members and residents, sponsors and invited guests, is truly unlike anything in the game of golf, said Andy Odenbach, vice president of sports ventures for Tavistock Group. That same uniqueness is found in the charity element of Tavistock Cup, in which $1 million is donated on behalf of the winning team to the charities of their choice.

Mark OMeara returns as captain for Team Isleworth and is joined by teammates Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Daniel Chopra, John Cook, Paula Creamer, J.B. Holmes, Charles Howell III, Nick OHern, Craig Parry and Tiger Woods. Chopra, Creamer and Holmes are making their Tavistock Cup debuts.

Ernie Els returns as captain of the 11-member Lake Nona team. His teammates include Ben Curtis, Chris DiMarco, Retief Goosen, Trevor Immelman, Graeme McDowell, Mark McNulty, Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Annika Sorenstam and Henrik Stenson.

The combined members of Isleworth and Lake Nona have won a total of 48 major championships and more than 700 career worldwide victories. Eleven of the top 50 men in the world will be competing along with two of the worlds top five women. Isleworth professional members have already racked up an astounding eight victories in the first two months of 2008.

The fifth annual Tavistock Cup will be televised live in the U.S., Canada and Japan on The Golf Channel and to over 40 countries around the globe through a network of international affiliates. TavistockCup.com will also feature real-time live scoring of the matches.
