Univ of W Florida Takes Trophy at Hombre Intercollegiate

University of West FloridaPANAMA CITY, Fla. -- In their first spring outing, the No. 6 University of West Florida men's golf team won the Hombre Intercollegiate, hosted by Catawba College and Lenoir-Rhyne College at the Hombre Golf Club. The Argos shot 301-301=602 and defeated No. 5 USC-Aiken by four strokes (303-303=606).
There were 15 teams, all NCAA Division II schools, in the tournament. Other opponents included No. 14 Kennesaw State, No. 29 Georgia College, No. 32 Presbyterian and No. 34 Columbus State.
The Argos' Joe Christianson won individual medalist honors after shooting another round of 72 for a two-day total of 144 strokes, and UWF also had showcased Adam Neville tied at second place with rounds of 69 and 77 for a total of 146. Kevin Warrick shot 82 and 72 for a score of 154 in a tie at 11th, Fredrick Lundberg had rounds of 78 and 80 for 158 strokes in a tie at 24th, and Beau James shot 82 and 81 for a final score of 163 in a tie at 45th.
