Feb. 3, 1989 ' Glenna Collett Vare dies, the greatest womens amateur player the U.S. has ever produced. Vare won the U.S. Womens Amateur six times.
Feb. 4, 1912 ' Byron Nelson is born in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Feb. 5, 1971 ' Alan Shepherd hits a golf ball on the moon with a head of a 6-iron mounted on a cylinder device.
Feb 6, 1994 ' Johnny Miller wins for the final time, at Pebble Beach. It was the third time he won the Pebble Beach tournament, each coming in a different decade ' 1975, 1987 and 1994.
Feb. 8, 1987 ' Nancy Lopez qualifies for Hall of Fame with 35th win. It occurred at Sarasota, Fla., which by coincidence was where Lopez won her first LPGA tournament in 1978.
Feb 9, 1958 ' Sandy Lyle is born in Shrewsbury, England.
