CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Wichita State men's golf team held on to a double digit lead (11 strokes) enroute to winning its first team championship this season, the 2003 El Diablo Intercollegiate. The Shockers fired a three-round, 54-total of 877 (286-292-299) on the Par-72, 7,045-yard El Diablo Golf and Country Club Course.
Senior Julien Trudeau led WSU with a fifth place finish (71-71-74=216) in the field of 100 competitors. Three other Shocker players finished in the top-20 of the leaderboard. Senior Jason Novascone followed Trudeau in sixth place (69-74-75=218), while sophomore Judd Easterling came in seventh (73-70-76=219) and junior Cory Cooper tied for 20th (73-72-74=224). Sophomore Ty Cline rounded out the team for WSU, finishing tied for 44th (77-77-76=230).
Martin Laird of Colorado State won individual medalist honors with a three-round score of 209 (67-74-68) while first day leader Kenny Cook of Ball State finished fourth (70-68-76=214).
