Wie watch in Reno

Reno-Tahoe OpenMichelle Wie once again competed against the men on the PGA TOUR. She played in this week's Legends Reno-Tahoe Open. It was her eighth appearance on the Tour and her eighth missed cut. Here is how she fared:

Score: 9-over-par 153 for the tournament. Wie followed an opening 1-over 73 with a dismal 8-over 80 on Friday.
Key to the round: Big numbers. Wie had avoided making anything worse than a double bogey over her first 30 holes. She then double-bogeyed the par-5 fourth hole (she started on the back nine) and made a 9 on the par-4 eighth.
Breakdown: Making the cut was there for the taking. Wie started just one off the projected cut line, and was only two back after making the turn. But, as has been the case in many of her professional tournaments, she could not avoid crumbling down the stretch.

Score: Playing in the final group of the day with Jimmy Walker and Scott Sterling, Wie shot 1-over-par 73 to finish in tie for 77th place. She started the day with bogeys on two of her first five holes, but rebounded with a pair of birdies to make the turn in even-par. She also had a pair of bogeys on the back nine, but a birdie on the par-5 17th kept her in good shape to make the cut.
Key to the round: Wie avoided big numbers ' her nemesis in previous efforts ' making nothing worse than a bogey. She dropped four shots on the day, but nearly offset them with a trio of birdies.
Breakdown: Montreux Golf and Country Club is listed at 7,472 yards on the card. That's more than 1,200 yards longer than the course on which she played the LPGA's State Farm Classic a few weeks ago. The high elevation, though, worked in her favor and decreased the overall length of the layout. She averaged 308 yards off the tee, hit nine of 14 fairways, seven of 18 greens in regulation, and needed only 24 putts. Overall, a very solid effort.
In her words: Im not going to think about what other people think about me. All Im going to think about is how Im going to shoot a better score tomorrow and how Im going to shoot a low number and I think a low number will take care of everything.
